In the 14th century, Japanese foresters developed a technique called daisugi, which is the practice of growing trees on top of other trees. It’s an unusual way of sustainably creating lumber without cutting down the trees themselves.
These days, business acquisition can bring up stories of professional investors that buy the forest, then cut it all down on a short timeframe and leave, often harming the businesses or the people connected to them. We think that daisugi is a great example of creativity, preserving what's been built, and creating sustainable value in business too.
